Heritage-Based Spatial Form Consideration: Western Urban Planning Concepts Used in Chinese Urban (Dalian) Development

Dalian, a typical modern colonial city, originated in the late 19th century and was planned built by Russian architects. Academics have traditionally focused on unique qualities of spatial form from early stages urban development, but due to lack history archives, formation planning ideology this time not been examined. For study, we visited State Historical Archives search for relevant materials restore process forming Dalian’s form. Based this, heritage value attributes are discussed. The results show that, although Dalian always under control political power at stage its construction, ideas were integrated with Western ideas. Secondly, influence ideas, including “classicalism” “garden city”, space gradually formed appearance, bearing brand times memory special context. Moreover, study finds that evolution is simply cumulative development itself result external implanted values attributes.
